Biography & Hagiography

Saint Jude Thaddeus was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus, brother of Saint James the Less and relative of the Savior. At the Last Supper, Jude asked Jesus how He would manifest Himself to His disciples rather than to the worldly realm. Jude authored the Canonical Epistle of Jude in the New Testament, urging Christians to "contend earnestly for the faith once delivered to the saints" against false teachers and spiritual lethargy. Following the Ascension, Jude preached the Gospel across Mesopotamia, Judea, and Persia, working numerous miracles. He suffered martyrdom alongside Saint Simon the Zealot in Persia, and has been invoked for centuries as the miraculous Patron of Desperate and Hopeless Causes.

Most holy Apostle, Saint Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the Church honors and invokes thee universally as the patron of hopeless cases and of things almost despaired of. Pray for me, I am so helpless and alone. Intercede with God for me that He bring visible and speedy help where help is almost despaired of. Come to my assistance in this great need that I may receive the consolation and help of Heaven in all my necessities, tribulations, and sufferings, particularly (mention petition), and that I may praise God with thee and all the elect forever. Amen.
